Senior Mobile Software Engineer (iOS & Android)

About the Role

We are partnering with an innovative technology business that develops digital products used by a large and growing user base. As part of continued growth, they are looking for a Senior Mobile Software Engineer to help shape the future of their mobile and web platforms.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working on both native and cross-platform mobile applications while supporting broader software engineering initiatives. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers and engineers to build scalable, secure and user-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across mobile application architecture, development and modernisation initiatives.
  • Support the development and maintenance of both iOS and Android applications.
  • Contribute to long-term platform and technology strategy.
  • Optimise application performance, reliability and user experience.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and enhancements.
  • Develop, test and deploy scalable, maintainable and secure software solutions.
  • Contribute across mobile, web and backend technology stacks where required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor and support other engineers within the team.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing mobile applications for both iOS and Android.
  • Commercial experience with React and React Native.
  • Experience with modern React Native tooling and ecosystems.
  • Understanding of native mobile development and platform concepts across iOS and Android.
  • Experience investigating and resolving native application issues.
  • Knowledge of Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin or Java.
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and managing asynchronous application state.
  • Understanding of component-based architecture and reusable UI development.
  • Experience writing automated tests for frontend and mobile applications.
  • Knowledge of mobile application lifecycles, app deployment and release processes.
  • Strong understanding of responsive and adaptive user interface design.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with Expo, Vite, Vitest or similar modern development tooling.
  • Exposure to legacy mobile technologies and application migrations.
  • Experience with backend development technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, C# or PHP.
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation.
  • Experience working within regulated industries or handling sensitive data.
  • Exposure to AI-powered applications or Large Language Model integrations.
  • Previous technical leadership or mentoring experience.
