We're looking for a highly technical UNIX Engineer to join a core Infrastructure Engineering team supporting a large-scale enterprise environment within the financial services sector.#

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance automation for large-scale Linux patching, OS upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Build orchestration components using Python, Ansible, and Apache Airflow.
  • Create robust pre-checks, post-change validations, and automation workflows to improve reliability and deployment speed.
  • Integrate monitoring and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and related tooling.
  • Support automation across Linux platforms, with exposure to load balancers and virtualisation technologies.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve infrastructure resilience and operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in Python and Ansible.
  • Experience with automation and orchestration tools (Apache Airflow desirable).
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, protocols, filesystems, and low-level UNIX concepts.
  • Comfortable working at the command line and troubleshooting complex infrastructure.
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki is advantageous.
  • Financial services experience is beneficial but not essential.

Additional Information:

  • Glasgow is the preferred location, with some travel to the London client site during onboarding (travel covered where applicable). Newcastle-based candidates will primarily attend the Newcastle office when required.
  • This role suits engineers who enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges through automation in a highly technical environment.
