Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal CAD/CAM Programmer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for programming CNC laser cutting and turret punch machines to produce precision-engineered sheet metal products for the construction industry. You will play a key role in capacity planning, material optimisation, and improving production efficiency. Ideal candidates will have strong technical knowledge, practical experience with SigmaNest (or similar software), and a proactive problem-solving mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program CNC laser cutting and turret punch machines to manufacture sheet metal components from CAD data.
  • Interpret technical drawings, sheet metal CAD files, and specifications to create accurate cutting programs.
  • Optimise and refine CNC programs using SigmaNest or equivalent software.
  • Oversee machine routing and implement efficient capacity planning for production operations.
  • Monitor material usage, apply strategies to reduce waste, and collaborate with purchasing to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Troubleshoot programming and machine-related issues to ensure consistent quality and output.
  • Work closely with the design and shopfloor teams to enhance workflow and product quality.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to programs, materials, and schedules.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in CNC programming for 3D laser and turret punch machines (Amada machines highly preferred).
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software such as SigmaNest, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and materials.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, measure sheets, 3D CAD files, and DXF files.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with machine troubleshooting and quality assurance tools/instruments.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office/Office365, particularly Excel and Teams.
