Help us modernise, scale and improve mature digital platforms - the kind that are business-critical and genuinely interesting to work on. True9 is a ten-year-old, independent technology consultancy based in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. We’re looking for a Senior PHP Developer who enjoys working on established, business-critical systems - and taking the time to improve them properly. Much of our work involves long-lived platforms that have delivered value for years. The challenge comes from improving structure, reducing risk and enabling teams to move faster with confidence.
If you enjoy untangling complex systems, improving legacy codebases without burning them down, and leaving software in a better state than you found it, you’ll feel at home here.
What you’ll be doing:
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested PHP (primarily Symfony)
- Working hands-on with legacy codebases: refactoring, improving boundaries and raising quality
- Owning areas of the platform and improving them incrementally
- Contributing to architectural decisions and refactoring strategies
- Improving developer experience through better tooling, tests and workflows
- Collaborating closely with delivery and QA throughout the lifecycle
We believe great software comes from people who are supported, trusted and given room to grow. In this role, you’ll:
- Have time and space to improve the codebase, not just add features
- Be encouraged to take ownership and influence technical direction
- Learn through real-world problems, not artificial exercises
- Share knowledge and mentor others (and be mentored yourself)
- Receive a £500 annual personal development budget for learning that matters to you
How we work:
- Remote-first across the UK, with monthly in-person days at our Saltaire office
- A supportive, low-ego environment where people are trusted to do the right thing
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused engineering
- Clear communication and collaboration across engineering, delivery and QA
This role is a great fit if you:
- Have strong experience with PHP, OOP and modern frameworks
- Are comfortable working with large or legacy systems
- Care about quality, testing and long-term maintainability
- Prefer autonomy, trust and thoughtful decision-making
- Enjoy working with people who value clarity over ego
What we offer:
- Salary up to £60,000, depending on experience
- Remote-first UK role with regular team days in Saltaire
- 34 days holiday (including Bank Holidays + an extra day on your birthday)
- A genuinely supportive, down-to-earth team
- Flexible working - structure your day around what works for you
