The Role
You will be responsible for the high-level design of software solutions that span multiple systems and complex business processes. Your role is to understand the intricate interdependencies across the digital landscape to ensure seamless integration and service delivery. This role focuses on software and application architecture; deep infrastructure or hardware specialism is not a primary requirement.
Key SFIA Level 5 Skills
- Solution Architecture (ARCH 5): Leads the design of complex software solutions, mapping technical components to business processes and ensuring system-wide interoperability.
- Systems Design (DESN 5): Specifies high-level software architectures and interfaces, ensuring all designs align with the GDS Service Standard and organisational goals.
- Specialist Advice (TECH 5): Provides authoritative guidance to senior leaders on how software changes impact the wider ecosystem and citizen experience.
- Consultancy & Stakeholder Management (CNSL 5): Builds strong relationships with diverse stakeholders to define requirements and navigate conflicting priorities.
- Architecture Governance: Establishes and follows rigorous governance frameworks, ensuring all designs pass through internal Design Authorities and meet security/compliance mandates.
- System Interdependency: Analyse and map how data and processes flow across multiple software platforms to eliminate silos.
- High-Level Design: Create robust software blueprints that guide development teams without getting bogged down in server-level infrastructure.
- Strategic Governance: Actively participate in and lead architecture boards, ensuring every solution is documented, vetted, and sustainable.
- Public Sector Alignment: Ensure all software solutions adhere to the Technology Code of Practice and accessibility (WCAG) requirements.
The roles are inside IR35 and have a rate of £450‑500 per day - they are home based roles with any unlikely travel that is required, will be fully expensed. Given the urgency of the roles and projects, we do need everyone to be available either immediately or with circa 1 week’s notice - it is also essential that you are SC Cleared or are eligible for SC clearance.
