3-month contract starting ASAP (inside IR35, 2 x per month in Newcastle)

Required:

  • Scala leadership experience
  • Lead the design and implementation of full-stack solutionsleveragingScala across both front-end and back-end layers.
  • Build and maintain microservices leveraging the Play Framework, deployed on a PaaS platform.
  • Ensure best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment are followed throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions that meet both business and technical requirements.
  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of developers.
  • Drive architectural discussions and actively contribute to high-level technical decisions.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to improve code quality and maintainability.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible communication forstakeholders and non-technical team members.
  • Partner with DevOps and QA teams to ensure robust, scalable, and secure solutions.
  • Activelyparticipatein HMRC craft communities, sharing IBM best practices and thought leadership.
  • Experience in working in a MacOS or Linux environment is essential.
  • Demonstratedexperience in a Lead Developer or equivalent leadership position, with a strong background in Scala development.
  • Strongproficiencywith Scala and functional programming principles.
  • Hands‑on experience in developing microservices with Play Framework.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and modern dev tooling, such as IntelliJ, VS Code,sbt(scala).
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Strong communicationand interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience inparticipatingand influencing architectural decisions across large codebases.
