You will be supported by this employer to study for a degree on a day release basis, starting October 2026 in West Sussex (Nr Horsham). This role is to join an engineering consultancy that designs all the mechanical and electrical systems within buildings such as schools, hospitals, and office buildings. This apprentice/trainee role will be responsible for assisting engineers to gain experience and detailed working knowledge of all parts of the construction industry; you will become specialised as an electrical design engineer.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Senior Engineers with detailed design tasks, equipment selection, and drawing production.
- Understand main components to system designs and the different types of systems. Awareness of design options and their application.
- Carry out detailed design calculations and adopt a full understanding of computer design packages.
- Develop an understanding of Legislations, Standards, Building Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Learn and understand construction techniques and develop awareness of other design team disciplines.
- Develop and gain a good awareness of manufactured products and systems and how they can be implemented in design.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of Sustainable design approaches and options related to your engineering discipline to advise the design team, including considering impact on reserving natural resources, Embodied Carbon, and Operational Carbon Emissions.
Experience & Qualifications:
- You will need to be technically minded.
- A levels including maths-based subjects or an electrical or engineering/technical based BTEC.
- An enthusiasm to learn and build a career as an electrical design engineer.
