We are partnered with a rapidly growing, multi-national M&E contractor at the forefront of decarbonising public sector buildings across the UK & Ireland. Over the past five years, the business has delivered an impressive growth strategy, expanding into 8 regional offices and establishing 3 fabrication facilities, positioning itself as a major player in the low-carbon and energy transition market. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Mechanical Head of Design / Associate Design Engineer / Principal Design Engineer to lead their UK design function from their Birmingham office. This is a critical senior leadership position, offering the opportunity to shape and drive the company’s M&E design strategy across major decarbonisation and energy infrastructure projects nationwide.
We are looking for a technically strong Mechanical Design leader with a background in HVAC, plant, and energy systems, who can combine strategic leadership with hands-on engineering expertise. You will be comfortable leading teams, managing key client relationships, and still capable of delivering and reviewing high-quality technical designs when required.
Responsibilities:- Lead and deliver the company’s decarbonisation design strategy from RIBA Stage 2 through to project completion
- Manage, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers
- Ensure all designs are technically robust, compliant, innovative, and buildable
- Provide technical leadership across M&E, renewables, heat networks, and smart energy systems
- Support project delivery through site visits, workshops, and client collaboration
