Tru Talent is delighted to be working with our well-established waste client, who are looking for an experienced and commercially driven Head of Business Development to lead their sales function and drive continued revenue growth. This is a key senior role with responsibility for new business development, sales strategy, customer relationships and commercial performance. You'll lead and develop the sales team, identify new opportunities, manage key customer relationships and ensure the business achieves its growth and profitability objectives.
Responsibilities of the Head of Business Development:
- Lead, motivate and develop the sales team to achieve agreed targets
- Develop and implement effective sales and business development strategies
- Own the development and conversion of new business opportunities
- Identify target markets, sectors and customers for growth
- Manage and develop key customer relationships and identify opportunities for increased spend and additional services
- Lead the customer-facing commercial aspects of significant tenders
- Manage opportunities from initial prospect through to contract award and mobilisation
- Own customer pricing and commercial proposals, ensuring agreed margin targets are achieved
- Lead and support complex customer negotiations and commercial agreements
- Monitor customer profitability, revenue and overall commercial performance
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline reporting and performance data
- Provide commercial insight, market intelligence and recommendations to senior management and the board
- Monitor competitor activity, industry trends and emerging customer opportunities
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Finance, Operations and Customer Service to ensure customer solutions are commercially viable and operationally achievable
- Drive improvements across sales processes, CRM usage and conversion
- Oversee escalated customer issues and ensure a consistently high level of customer service
Needed for the role of Head of Business Development:
- Proven experience in sales, business development and commercial management
- Previous experience leading and developing a sales team
- Strong track record of winning new business and developing existing customers
- Excellent customer relationship, negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong commercial understanding of pricing, margins and profitability
- Experience managing tenders and complex commercial opportunities
- Strong leadership, coaching and decision-making skills
- Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills
- Confident presenting commercial information and recommendations to senior management
- Experience using CRM, quoting and sales reporting systems
- Proactive, results-focused and commercially driven
- Customer-focused whilst maintaining a strong focus on business profitability
