We are looking to appoint an engineering-led Applications Engineer / Specification Sales Engineer to support continued growth across the consultant, design, and specification market. This is a technically focused position suited to someone who enjoys engineering problem solving, system applications, and working closely with customers to develop the right solution rather than traditional sales activity.

The role is centred around specification support, design collaboration, and technical application engineering across HVAC and building controls projects.

The Role

Working closely with consultants, contractors, OEMs, and design teams, you will become a trusted technical partner throughout the design and specification process. This is not a cold-calling sales role and it is not a heavily quotation-driven position. Instead, the focus is on understanding the application, supporting system design, solving technical challenges, and helping customers integrate the correct solution into their projects. You will work on technically interesting projects across commercial buildings and complex HVAC applications, supporting customers through the full project lifecycle from concept and design through to technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support consultants and design engineers with HVAC and controls applications
  • Provide technical guidance around valve, actuator, and control system integration
  • Work closely with customers to review system designs and identify the most suitable solutions
  • Assist with specification development and technical compliance
  • Participate in technical discussions, workshops, and project meetings
  • Collaborate internally with engineering and commercial teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Develop long-term relationships with key specification stakeholders
  • Support OEM and contractor partners on technically led projects
  • Deliver value-added engineering support throughout the customer journey

Ideal Candidate Background

This role would suit someone currently working within:

  • Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Building Services Engineering
  • Applications Engineering
  • HVAC Design
  • Controls Engineering
  • Project Design Engineering
  • Technical Building Services Support

The ideal person will have a strong engineering mindset and enjoy discussing systems, layouts, applications, and technical solutions with customers. Candidates may come from design consultancies, manufacturers, OEM environments, or technically focused engineering businesses.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or similar preferred
  • Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems and building services
  • Experience working with system design, applications, layouts, or technical project delivery
  • Comfortable communicating with consultants, contractors, and engineers
  • Commercial awareness without needing a traditional sales background
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Able to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously
  • Motivated by progression and long-term career development

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a highly respected engineering manufacturer where technical capability and engineering credibility are genuinely valued. The business is looking for someone with long-term potential – an individual who can develop into a senior technical or commercial leadership role over time. You will be part of a collaborative, engineering-led culture where the emphasis is on solving problems, supporting customers properly, and delivering technically robust solutions rather than aggressive sales tactics.

Package

  • Competitive basic salary
  • Annual bonus
  • Car allowance / company car
  • Hybrid working
  • Pension & benefits package
  • Long-term progression opportunities
