Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of major energy transition projects across the UK. The role will focus on the testing, commissioning and energisation of high-voltage electrical systems on projects including BESS, renewables, grid connections, substations and wider power infrastructure. You will play a key role at the construction-to-commissioning interface, ensuring systems are delivered safely, compliantly and ready for operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out HV commissioning activities in line with project specifications, standards and procedures
- Support energisation, testing and validation of HV/MV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems and substations
- Prepare, review and execute commissioning procedures, test plans and method statements
- Interface closely with construction, QA/QC, commissioning and client teams to ensure readiness for energisation
- Support system handover, documentation sign-off and commissioning records
- Ensure all activities comply with UK safety rules, permits to work and isolation procedures
- Identify and resolve commissioning issues, escalating risks or constraints where required
- Participate in site walkdowns, punch-list close-out and commissioning readiness reviews
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance at all times
Skills Experience Required
- Proven experience as an HV Commissioning Engineer on power or energy projects
- Strong background in HV/MV systems, substations or grid-connected infrastructure
- Experience working on energy transition projects such as BESS, renewables, grid reinforcement or power generation
- Solid understanding of commissioning, testing, energisation and handover processes
- Familiarity with UK electrical safety rules, permits and isolation procedures
- Ability to work independently on site and coordinate with multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication and reporting skills
