We are seeking an experienced Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) to support a major infrastructure project during the construction phase. This role has two key elements:

  • Acting as an independent EnvCoW to monitor and report on environmental compliance.
  • Acting as the client's environmental representative on site, overseeing inspections, audits, and contractor compliance.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring all environmental commitments, planning conditions, and regulatory requirements are fully adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independent EnvCoW Duties
    • Monitor compliance with environmental commitments and planning conditions.
    • Produce monthly reports summarising site activities and compliance.
    • Report any environmental non-compliances within required timeframes.
    • Undertake pre-construction ecological surveys and ongoing monitoring.
    • Maintain a register of inspections, audits, and environmental controls.
    • Provide environmental guidance and training to site teams.
  • Client Representative Duties
    • Act as the environmental and consents representative on site.
    • Conduct site inspections and environmental audits.
    • Monitor contractor compliance with environmental legislation and management plans.
    • Support environmental incident reporting and investigations.
    • Attend regular meetings and provide weekly updates to stakeholders.
    • Ensure implementation of mitigation measures and environmental controls.

Project Scope Overview

  • Construction of a major HVDC converter station and high-voltage substation.
  • Associated works including earthworks, drainage, access, landscaping, and infrastructure.
  • Multi-contractor environment requiring strong coordination and communication.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related discipline.
  • Relevant professional memberships (desirable).
