We are partnering with a leading fashion supplier to find an experienced Soft Wovens Designer. Our client works with major supermarkets and high-volume retailers and is looking for a commercially driven designer with a young to mid market handwriting style, who is confident working with suppliers and attending customer meetings.
You will take ownership of all soft wovens categories, including dresses, tops and bottoms, designing across a broad range of accounts with a strong, modern handwriting. You will be responsible for sourcing and ordering your own fabrics, liaising directly with factories to track deliveries. A strong understanding of fabric performance and testing is essential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Will Include:
- Create seasonal mood and trend boards in collaboration with the wider design team
- Design seasonal capsule collections including key shapes, colour palettes and fabric direction
- Research and source new design ideas, fabrics and trims on an ongoing basis
- Design and develop commercial, fashion forward products for range and specific client briefs
- Attend fabric fairs and inspirational shopping trips to stay ahead of market trends
- Attend regular design meetings with the Sales Manager and customer buying and design teams
- Source and order fabrics independently and liaise with factories to manage delivery schedules
- Upload and manage orders accurately on the PLM system
- Oversee and support the junior designer
Person Specification:
- Proven experience in soft wovens design, ideally covering dresses, tops and bottoms
- Strong woven bottoms experience is highly desirable
- Solid supplier background with the ability to source and manage fabrics independently
- Good understanding of fabric performance and testing processes
- Experience working with factories in China, India or Bangladesh is preferred; other regions will also be considered
- Strong, modern design handwriting with a commercial and on trend aesthetic
- Young to mid market handwriting style suited to high volume, supermarket and mass market retail
- Highly proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- Strong CAD and tech pack skills
- Experience with PLM systems
- Able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
- A confident and professional communicator, comfortable attending customer meetings
- A positive team player who collaborates well with those around them
