The Office
Established in 1984 and located in the heart of the City, our Exeter office has evolved into a full-service law firm and is the first point of call for many corporate and individual clients in the South West and beyond. Our Real Estate team focuses on investment, development, construction, asset management, planning, environmental matters and dispute resolution, advising on both public and private sector matters. We are known for work in wealth management, residential conveyancing and agriculture, and we maintain strong capabilities in specialist travel insurance law. The Exeter Real Estate Team includes 39 fee earners focused on large development schemes, regeneration projects and multi-million pound commercial investments on behalf of institutional investors.
The Real Estate team
Real Estate is a key focus of our business. About 60% of our lawyers practice in the sector across disciplines including investment, finance, development, construction, asset management, planning, environmental and dispute resolution. We are ranked by The Lawyer as having one of the UK\’s Top 15 Real Estate practices overall. Our multidisciplinary team advises on investment and development across the full spectrum of assets in both the commercial and residential sectors, with a strong inward investment practice.
Responsibilities and opportunities include working on acquisitions and disposals, development, real estate finance, regeneration and joint ventures, and supporting multidisciplinary projects with Corporate, Banking & Finance, Litigation, Projects & Construction and Energy & Sustainability teams.
What you’ll be doing
As an Associate you will work in the Investment and Development Practice within our Real Estate group, handling deals involving commercial land (retail, industrial, telecoms and offices). You will have the opportunity to work on acquisitions and disposals, development, real estate finance, regeneration and joint venture projects. The role also involves advising a varied client base across private and public sectors, and collaborating on large-scale multidisciplinary projects with other teams.
Your work will include:
- Involvement in all types of property transactions for developers, investors, and public/private sector bodies;
- Sales and acquisitions;
- Asset management, including landlord and tenant matters;
- Real Estate finance, including preparing CLLS certificates of Title and managing conditions precedent;
- Project management and collaboration with other specialist teams on complex matters;
- Conforming with core competencies appropriate to the fee earner level;
- Building and maintaining client relationships where possible;
- Participating in marketing initiatives and firm-wide/departmental training;
- Running own files and ensuring compliance with Lexcel procedures.

- Excellent technical skills and ability to take responsibility, manage and progress matters independently where appropriate;
