Data Engineer | London | Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Join us. We're still building.
We make bags and accessories for the people building the future. Engineers, founders, designers, makers. People in the arena, doing the work, often without proof.
We've grown 15x in the last five years. B Corp certified. Wirecutter's pick for best laptop backpack.
We're building operations with AI at its core, and we mean it.
Our operating layer runs on Big Query, our first agents ship this quarter with our build partner, and the model is simple: a small team, serious volume, and machines doing the coordination β every seat owns and runs its own agents.
You own the rails that make that possible: the pipelines, the one source of truth, the standards, and, over time, the AI capability itself as we bring it in-house.
Reporting to our COO, you own the data and systems layer everything else stands on.
Every buy we commit, every agent we run, every promise we keep to a customer sits on data you keep honest.
Small team. Real ownership. You'll build, run and fix the things the rest of the business runs on, shoulder to shoulder with the operators who use them. No layers, no translators.
What You'll Do
- Own the data layer: Big Query pipelines, schema and data quality across Shopify, our 3PLs, Amazon and finance. When the data is clean, everything downstream just works.
- Build the vendor scorecard feeds (LSM via SP-API, our 3PLs, Flexport), so every vendor review runs on our numbers, not theirs.
- Own master SKU data: one source of truth for style and SKU records, feeding the site, wholesale portals, Amazon and finance.
- Own the rails and the standards: shared connections and credentials, the agent registry (every agent, its owner, its last check), documentation and handover, set with our external partner and then brought in-house.
Seat owners maintain their own agents; you make them able to.
- Run internal systems: access, tooling, file systems.
Who You Are
- 3+ years hands-on with data and systems in a business that ships physical product, or somewhere the data was every bit as messy. You've built pipelines that mattered.
- Fluent in SQL and a modern data stack (Big Query or similar). You wrangle APIs and write the scripts that hold it together.
- AI-first with evidence: you're already building with it, and you've helped non-technical colleagues build and maintain their own automations, and enjoyed it.
- Systems-minded and low-ego. Documented, reliable and handed over well beats clever.
- Based in or able to work from London (Fitzrovia).
- Why Troubadour
We've grown 15x in the last five years. The next phase is bigger still, and everyone we hire has a hand in shaping it.
We're a small team.
Curious.
Hands-on.
We care about doing things well, and about the people doing them.
High standards without high drama.
We disagree out loud.
We back each other up.
The people that thrive here treat the work seriously and themselves a little less so.
Our headquarters is in Fitzrovia, London, and our store is on Beak Street in Soho.
We have an office in Boston.
The rest of the team works remotely, and we get together whenever we can.
We look after our people properly.
The basics and more.
