Managing Director @ Troubador Publishing & The Book Guild | Providing high-quality and trustworthy book production, promotion and distribution…

Troubador Publishing and its sister company, The Book Guild, are seeking a talented and driven Marketing Executive to work across both brands. This role is central to enhancing our visibility, refining our brand presence and ensuring our message is communicated clearly and compellingly to both the wider publishing industry and our authors.

Working closely with the New Business team within Troubador’s Customer Services department, the Marketing Executive will be responsible for planning and executing a range of marketing strategies that drive qualified leads to the sales team. They will also be instrumental in identifying and implementing new tools and approaches to promote Troubador’s services effectively.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll execute the majority of our marketing activities yourself, while also coordinating with other team members as needed. While your role will span a wide variety of marketing tactics, social media will form the backbone of what you are doing day-to-day.

Key responsibilities

The most significant aspect of this role, and the one that will consume the majority of your time, is building and maintaining our presence across social media platforms. You will own the strategy, execution and ongoing development of all social media channels, including campaign planning, testing and performance reporting. You’ll work with internal stakeholders to ensure messaging is on-brand and effective, and will set yourself aggressive audience growth targets that you'll have full flexibility in reaching.

As part of our wider social media strategy for The Book Guild, you will collaborate with the publicity and publishing teams to continue developing our network of influencers to review our books, engage with our audience and help us build interest in our titles.

In addition to the core social media focus, you will:

  • Plan and deliver all external digital marketing activity for Troubador Publishing and The Book Guild. This will include setting and achieving targets for traffic and lead generation through inbound and outbound tactics.
  • Manage the production and publication of keyword-optimised content for our blog and news sections on our websites. You’ll write some of this content and commission the rest from internal contributors, ensuring our weekly publishing schedule is maintained.
  • Oversee planning, execution and optimisation of our paid advertising campaigns. This includes managing current platforms such as Facebook, as well as exploring and testing new advertising opportunities. You’ll work directly with external experts to manage Google Ads campaigns, ensuring that spend, objectives, and performance align with business goals.
  • Commission, produce and promote regular author-written success stories for both the Troubador and The Book Guild websites.
  • Lead our email marketing strategy, including the optimisation of already existing tactics (like our monthly newsletters to prospects) and creating new initiatives like email campaigns to our bookshop marketing list, as well as existing authors.
  • Create downloadable resources for our online author resource centre. These couldinclude guides, templates and free publishing advice.
  • Collaborate closely with Customer Services to refine lead quality, support new contract targets and manage leads through HubSpot. You’ll regularly review lead quality with the Customer Services Manager and adjust your approach as required.
  • Report on core marketing metrics, including traffic, lead generation and ad spend, to the Managing Director monthly.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper for our customer personas and target audiences, running team-wide refreshers twice a year to ensure our messaging remains aligned and effective across our team.

Requirements (Essential)

  • Proven experience planning and managing multi-channel social media campaigns, ideally for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok.
  • Strong understanding of inbound and outbound marketing principles and tactics.
  • A proactive approach to learning, with a passion for exploring new marketing methods and bringing fresh ideas to the table.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A critical thinker who challenges the status quo and is always looking for more innovative ways to market the business.

Desirable (not essential)

  • Experience with paid social media advertising (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Experience managing Google Ads campaigns.
  • Proven experience in planning, creating, and executing email marketing strategies.
  • Familiarity with key Google tools such as Google Analytics, Search Console, and Ads.
  • Experience with CRM tools like HubSpot.
  • Experience updating, maintaining, or managing a website.
