Role Overview-

The Planning & Materials Controller is responsible for coordinating the production planning process and supporting material readiness for the manufacturing site. The role maintains the site manufacturing schedule, monitors stock and material availability, supports production flow, and works closely with Production, Warehouse, Customer Service, QC / Technical and Finance to ensure the plan is practical, visible and customer-focused. Key duties include-

  • Prepare, maintain and communicate the site manufacturing schedule, ensuring customer priorities, capacity, material availability and production constraints are considered.
  • Maintain the production plan file and ensure changes, risks and priorities are visible to Production, Warehouse, Customer Service and site leadership.
  • Work with the Production Manager to confirm the plan is operationally achievable and to track delivery against the agreed plan.
  • Monitor stock, raw material and packaging availability for planned production, frequent-moving products and key customer orders.
  • Flag material shortages, supplier delays, stock discrepancies or planning risks early, with clear proposed actions or escalation routes.
  • Coordinate offsite storage requirements with Warehouse and Production to maintain production supplies and manage site space effectively.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service to align open orders, available stock, planned production and customer lead-time risk.
  • Support new raw material and new product introduction processes by coordinating site inputs, system setup and required process steps.
  • Maintain accurate planning, stock and material-control data in key site systems, spreadsheets and trackers.
  • Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system, ensuring planning and material data remains accurate and controlled.

You will be able to demonstrate the following key skills-

  • Experience in production planning, materials control, supply chain coordination or a similar manufacturing support role.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a live manufacturing environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience of ERP / MRP systems is desirable.
  • Comfortable using data, spreadsheets and systems to support decisions, priorities and risk visibility.
  • Proactive self-starter, able to work independently while maintaining strong communication across departments.
  • Good understanding of stock control, production scheduling, material availability and customer service impact.
