Postdoc Researcher (Pharmacometrician) in Oxford

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and bright postdoctoral researcher, ideally with a background in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics, statistics, mathematics or related fields. The scientist will conduct quantitative pharmacology research with the aim to improve and optimize current and newly developed treatments for malaria and other neglected tropical diseases by developing mathematical and statistical models to describe the time course of drug concentrations and effect. This position will not involve any wet lab work.

Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) is a well-established and highly productive research collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, the University of Oxford, and the Wellcome Trust (UK). The unit has been conducting research for 40 years and is recognised as a world leader in tropical medicine research. The Department of Clinical Pharmacology focuses on quantifying medicine in patient samples from clinical trials, proteomic/metabolomic/lipidomic research, pharmacometric data analysis, and medicine quality research. It is one of the world's leading laboratories for pharmacological research on antimalarial drugs and comprises a diverse team of approximately 25 persons.

Responsibilities

• Develop mathematical and statistical models utilising clinical data from MORU and collaborators to optimise treatments.
• Take part in experimental design and method development.
• Maintain an active collaboration with external partners.
• Handle other duties as assigned.
• Provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and project volunteers.

Qualifications

• A PhD in pharmacokinetics, statistics, mathematics, pharmacology or related areas together with relevant experience.
• Ability to manage own academic research and associated activities.
• Strong organisational and prioritising skills in stressful situations.
• Evidence of strong academic capacity in the form of publications or other scientific outputs.
• Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research funding.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write publications, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
• Fluency in pharmacometric/statistical modelling software such as R, Phoenix, NONMEM, and/or MONOLIX.
• Experience in nonlinear mixed effects modelling.
• Good knowledge of infectious disease pharmacology.
• Experience of independently managing a discrete area of a research project.

Terms & Conditions

The post is based in Bangkok at the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit. The salary will be based on MORU scales and will depend on experience and qualifications. The salary package includes: 13–th month of salary, health and life insurance, and 20 days of annual leave.
