As an LGV Driver, you will operate a range of waste collection vehicles using safe and efficient driving techniques. You will be responsible for the safety of your crew, yourself, and the public while delivering excellent customer service. This hands-on role involves both vehicle operation and supporting the waste collection process in line with company and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections, complete defect reports accurately, and escalate issues to the workshop as needed.
- Be fully compliant with the Transport WTD within tachograph legislation requirements.
- Follow appropriate reporting process where necessary in the event of incident and near-miss occurrences.
- Ensure uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) are worn at all times during duty and maintained in a clean, serviceable condition in accordance with company policies and Health & Safety regulations.
- Be fully compliant with relevant Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments.
- Provide a high level of customer service at all times to external and internal customers.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform weekly wheel nut torque checks to ensure safety and compliance.
- Promptly report contaminated bins and non-conforming waste to the Transport Office at shift end, ensuring all related paperwork and job tickets are accurately completed in line with company procedures.
- Demonstrate flexibility with working hours and availability for occasional overtime to support business and depot requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures including health and safety and employment.
What We’re Looking For
- Valid LGV Class II (Category C) licence or above, with a Driver Qualification Card (CPC) and a digital tachograph card.
- Experience operating Roll offs, skip, front end loaders, and waste wheeler vehicles is preferred, though full training will be provided if needed.
- Confident in reading maps and following directions, ensuring efficient route planning and timely service delivery.
- Basic knowledge of Health & Safety policies and procedures, with a commitment to safe working practices at all times.
- Willingness and flexibility to take on new tasks, work additional hours when required, and attend all relevant training including FORS and Health & Safety.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to complete paperwork accurately and efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive, professional attitude and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
