General Manager - Luxury Private Members Club in Islington

Our client operates one of London's most established private members clubs. Spread across multiple floors, the club combines restaurants, bars, events and member spaces within a busy, design-led environment that trades from day through to late evening. The membership is loyal, engaged and varied, with the club sitting at the intersection of hospitality, culture and London social life.

The business has grown significantly over recent years and is now entering another important stage in its evolution. The foundations are strong, the team is established and the club has a clear identity, but there is still real opportunity to sharpen the operation further and continue building on what already exists. The leadership team are ambitious, hands-on and highly invested in the business. They care about hospitality, standards, atmosphere and creating a club people genuinely want to spend time in.

The General Manager will oversee the day-to-day running of the club across all operational departments. This is a substantial leadership role within a high-volume environment with multiple spaces, large teams and a constant flow of members, guests and events moving through the building each week. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team whilst taking ownership of the operation itself. They will be expected to bring structure, consistency and momentum across the business whilst maintaining the personality and energy that make the club successful.

The role requires someone highly present. Someone who enjoys being in the operation, knows what good looks like and is able to build strong relationships with teams whilst keeping standards high. There is a strong commercial element to the role. The business wants someone who understands how to drive performance properly, whether through improving service flow, increasing covers and spend, developing teams or identifying operational opportunities across the club. Equally important is leadership. The successful candidate will need to bring confidence, credibility and calmness to a busy environment whilst helping managers grow and perform at a higher level. This role will suit someone who enjoys the balance between hospitality, people, operational detail and commercial performance.

This role needs an operator who is comfortable leading within a sizeable, fast-paced hospitality business where standards matter and no two days look quite the same. The client is open-minded on background, but the successful candidate will most likely come from a premium hospitality environment with meaningful scale and complexity behind it. That could be a leading private members club, a luxury or lifestyle hotel, a large restaurant business or another hospitality-led venue with multiple revenue streams and large operational teams.

The strongest candidates will probably have a natural presence about them. Calm, credible leaders who know how to build trust quickly, make decisions confidently and create accountability without overcomplicating things. Commercial awareness is important, but so is emotional intelligence. The business wants someone who notices detail, understands people and genuinely enjoys hospitality. They are also looking for someone comfortable operating in late-night environments. This is a business that remains busy well into the evening and the successful candidate will need to enjoy the pace, energy and unpredictability that comes with that. It suits someone who still likes being in the operation, enjoys busy nights and naturally thrives in atmospheric, high-energy settings rather than purely daytime or corporate hospitality environments.
