The Humanitarian Funding Advisor is an exciting role within a dynamic global humanitarian team. The role’s primary focus is on supporting the accessing of humanitarian funding from a variety of humanitarian donors. The post holder will contribute to Trócaire’s overall institutional funding strategy, working closely with country teams and HQ staff to identify, position and pursue humanitarian funding opportunities to achieve Trócaire’s strategic plan. Funding opportunities will be particularly focused on Fragile and Conflict‑affected States (FCAS) with an emphasis on UN funding; START Network funding; and support to other Humanitarian Funding streams, particularly to ECHO when relevant. This role can be based in our Maynooth office or remotely from the UK. To be considered for this role, you must already hold the necessary legal permissions to work and live in this location. Regrettably, we cannot offer work permit sponsorship or relocation assistance for this role. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a competency‑based interview. Interview questions will be based on the competencies outlined in this job specification.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support country offices in securing Humanitarian Funding, including positioning, engagement, coordination on proposal development, and direct proposal writing.
  • Contribute to continuously improving internal grant management systems and support local partners, including due diligence, capacity building for Trócaire staff and partners to access and manage humanitarian funds.
  • Develop and support engagement plans for key humanitarian donors, with an emphasis on UN & START Network, while contributing to wider Humanitarian funding engagement strategies globally and with country offices.
  • Contribute to wider Humanitarian Team and FCAS country initiatives, including global and country level strategic planning, with an emphasis on donor engagement.
  • Represent the organisation in key external fora relevant to the role, including but not limited to Caritas Internationalis, global UN fora, START Network global fora.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in institutional funding, inclusive of 2 years working on overseas humanitarian response.
  • Qualifications: A relevant third level qualification or its equivalent.
  • Technical/Professional skills: Existing knowledge of institutional funding mechanisms, proposal development & grant management regulations for International Non‑governmental organisations; excellent proposal writing skills evidenced by previous examples of successful humanitarian funding proposals; strong budgeting and financial management understanding; fluent English writing skills.
  • Competencies: Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for the mission, mandate, vision and values of Trócaire (leadership); holds self‑accountable for delivering on objectives (organisation); commitment to performing own role to a high standard of performance (delivering results); proactively shares information, knowledge and expertise (personal).
  • Qualities: Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams both at a global and country level.

Desirable Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Spanish or French (desirable only).
  • Previous experience working in a partnership organisation.
  • Knowledge of START and ECHO application processes (raising alerts & eSingle form specifically).

The job opportunity will be offered on a fixed‑term contract for 2 years and can be based in Ireland (Maynooth – an application can be made for hybrid working under our hybrid working policy) or the UK (remote under our hybrid working policy). As part of your role, you will work with the Humanitarian Team, the Global Partnerships and Funding Unit (GPFU) and a diverse range of teams across the globe.
