TRL, a global leader in transport innovation, is looking for a commercially minded and results-driven Principal Consultant to lead strategic client engagements and drive the growth of our Asset Management business. The successful candidate will focus on delivering value, winning work, and deepening client relationships across the highways and infrastructure sectors. This is a high-impact, outward-facing role — ideal for someone who is looking to combine deep subject matter expertise with a collaborative, client-focused approach. The successful candidate can be based UK wide with some travel expected. Flexible working options for full or part-time employment are available.
What you’ll do:
- Lead strategic asset management projects that deliver measurable client value.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, shaping solutions and building long-term relationships.
- Drive business development: spot opportunities, lead bids, shape proposals, and lead successful bid conversions.
- Support account management and pipeline development, working with business leaders to shape client strategies, solutions and growth plans.
- Represent TRL externally at industry forums, events, and working groups and lead workshops.
- Develop thought leadership (e.g. white papers, best practice guides) to strengthen market position.
- Guide the delivery of client strategies, policies, and guidance documents.
What we’re looking for:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Asset Management, or similar.
- Significant experience in infrastructure consulting, ideally with a highways focus.
- A proven track record of winning work and growing client accounts.
- Deep knowledge of asset management frameworks (e.g. ISO 55000).
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to tailor technical advice to client needs.
- Commercially aware, with a strong grasp of client needs, market drivers, and value-based consulting.
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in infrastructure asset management ideal.
- Chartered / professionally qualified (e.g. CEng, IAM, CIHT) preferred.
