Join TRL’s Assets team as a Consultant, where you’ll deliver cutting-edge research and practical solutions in transport infrastructure, asset management, and emerging technologies like automated vehicle systems. We’re looking for a STEM graduate with strong technical skills and a passion for innovation. The successful candidate will bring strong skills in data analysis, programming, experimental design, and the translation of technical research into practical guidance for clients and stakeholders. The successful candidate can be based UK wide with some travel expected. Flexible working options for full or part-time employment is available.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and support R&D projects in road condition monitoring, automation, and machine learning.
- Design and run experimental trials, collect and analyse data, and build custom tools (e.g. using Python).
- Apply signal and image processing for infrastructure assessment and survey analysis.
- Write clear, evidence-based reports, guidance, and standards for clients and stakeholders.
- Present findings through workshops, conferences, and publications.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to TRL’s innovation initiatives.
What You’ll Need:
- Degree in a STEM-related subject.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and tool development.
- Experience in experimental design and interpreting physical measurement data.
- Familiarity with infrastructure condition assessment techniques and asset data collection technologies.
- Clear technical communication skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Experience with condition monitoring, signal processing, or digital twins.
- Familiarity with infrastructure survey methods (e.g. TRACS, P-AMS MSP).
