About The Role: We are seeking an experienced Collision Investigator to join our Forensic Investigations team at TRL. The successful candidate can be based UK wide. This is a part time role (ideally 20 hours per week).
Key Duties / Responsibilities:
- Primarily responsible for carrying out peer reviews of technical reports; checking the accuracy, quality and consistency of expert reports and providing feedback in an objective and constructive way.
- Identify and propose any alternative scenarios, methods of investigation or research that might be applicable to a particular case or could be used to validate the results.
- Identify areas for improvement, coach and mentor team members, contribute to team meetings and participate in quality management review sessions.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Qualifications or extensive relevant experience in collision investigation and vehicle examination.
- Knowledge of key principles of collision investigation and developments within the discipline.
- Qualified and experienced in the forensic analysis of video and able to demonstrate competence in using a range of analysis techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of research and developments within the discipline, able to reference and recommend peer-reviewed papers that are relevant to a specific investigation.
- Experience in reviewing others' technical work and an ability to discuss comments and suggestions constructively, to explain your rationale and resolve issues.
- Knowledge of the role of an Expert Witness, and the relevant Criminal and Civil Procedure Rules in England/Wales, and their equivalents in other jurisdictions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; in particular to be able to explain technical information accurately and confidently, and provide honest feedback to assist in the technical development of colleagues.
- Able to manage tight deadlines and balance conflicting priorities, communicating effectively with colleagues and managers.
Desirable:
- A degree in an engineering or automotive discipline, or a similar technical/scientific subject is preferred.
- Experience in vehicle examination, including obtaining and analysing electronic data from vehicles, such as Event Data Recorders and telematic devices.
- Experience of presenting evidence in both Civil and Criminal Courts.
- Experience/interest in injury causation specifically the usage of helmets and seatbelts.
