Reporting to the Event Venue General Manager (EVGM) or Event Venue Manager (EVM), the Deputy Venue Manager will support the integrated planning and Games-time delivery of operations for an assigned competition venue. Working within the Organising Company (OC) planning frameworks, the role will assist in coordinating all competition venue functional areas (FA’s), working closely with our existing venue teams and supporting our embedded partners and suppliers to contribute to the “One Team” approach across all venue services.
The role is a key support role to the Event Venue General Manager (EVGM) in both planning and delivery and will be required to deputise for the EVGM when not on shift. This position requires an experienced event professional who has previous major event experience within the Venue Management functional areas. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, demonstrated experience in making decisions under pressure, an understanding of existing venue operations and have a commitment to delivering exceptional client and athlete experience.
Working arrangements: The role will initially be based at the Organising Company’s Glasgow city centre office, with visits to competition venues as required to support the effective delivery of responsibilities. As the Games approach, the role will transition to being primarily based at your assigned competition venue. The position is initially contracted for 37.5 hours per week (with a 30-minute lunch break), with office attendance aligned to the Organising Company’s working pattern. During the Games-time operational period, shift patterns will apply and may include evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Coordination
- Support the Event Venue General Manager in finalising operational planning and the coordination and integration of the plans of all functional areas, venue operators and suppliers and contractors.
- Assist in the finalisation of all venue documentation including venue operating plans, daily run sheets, move to venue guides and issues and risks registers.
- Review and contribute to the compilation of documentation required under venue licensing and operational approval conditions.
- Support the Venue Overlay team with inputs to the integrated venue schedule (IVS), including infrastructure, site readiness, and key milestones and ensure alignment with operational milestones.
- Co‑ordinate and deliver important on venue activities such as integration meetings, site visits and meetings with clients and suppliers.
- Support venue-based readiness activities including site visits, technical walkthroughs, test events, exercises and rehearsals.
- Participate in the Games testing, readiness and exercising program.
- Deputise the Venue Manager across key engagements and planning activities across the OC and their partners.
- Provide regular updates to the Event Venue General Manager relating to readiness status, risks, challenges, and mitigation measures.
- Contribute to cross-partner forums, operational reviews and stakeholder meetings as required.
- Play a leadership role within the venue team through the delivery period, ensuring competition venue delivery meets the venue operator, safety Commonwealth Sport and IF regulations.
- Be responsible for coordination of all functional areas and issue resolution of Games-time issues ensuring they align with OC and venue operators policies and procedures and follow reporting and communication lines in the ECR and GOG.
- Deputise for the Event Venue General Manager when required including fulfilling shifts in the Event Control Room.
- Monitor compliance with health, safety, sustainability, accessibility, and security policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with key site visits during the Games Time period.
- Champion operational excellence, sustainability, accessibility, and inclusive practices within venue planning and delivery.
- Promote the Event Delivery Partner’s values and behaviours, supporting strong collaboration and constructive problem‑solving across all stakeholder groups.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise - Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in venue operations or event delivery roles in multi-sport Games, major events, or complex public-facing environments (Commonwealth/Olympic experience desirable but not essential).
- Experience supporting operational planning, readiness, and delivery phases for major events.
- Understanding of multi-stakeholder environments, including venue operators, local authorities and external contractors.
- Awareness of sustainable and inclusive event management practices.
- Demonstrated experience of venue management and working within an existing venue environment.
