Description Start Date: May 2026

Reporting to the Venue Manager, the Deputy Venue Manager will support the integrated planning and Games-time delivery of operations for an assigned competition venue. Working within the Organising Company (OC) planning frameworks, the role will assist in coordinating Overlay, Event Delivery Partner (EDP) operations, OC Functional Areas (FAs), and external stakeholder activities, contributing to the “One Team” approach across all venue services. The role will support performance monitoring against agreed operational KPIs and contribute to regular readiness reporting for both the Event Delivery Partner and the OC. The Deputy will play a key role in supporting engagement with the venue Owner, international and domestic Games partners, contractors, and authorities. This position suits an emerging venue operations professional with strong coordination skills, a collaborative approach, and an interest in delivering world-class event operations within a fast-paced environment. Candidates should demonstrate sound judgement, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional visitor and athlete experience.

Working arrangements: The role will initially be based at the Organising Company’s Glasgow city centre office, with visits to competition venues as required to support the effective delivery of responsibilities. As the Games approach, the role will transition to being primarily based at your assigned competition venue. The position is initially contracted for 37.5 hours per week (with a 30-minute lunch break), with office attendance aligned to the Organising Company’s working pattern. During the Games-time operational period, shift patterns will apply and may include evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning & coordination: Support the Venue Manager in coordinating operational planning across EDP teams, OC FAs, venue owners, Commonwealth Sport, International Federations, and other partners to ensure aligned and efficient delivery. Assist in the development, maintenance, and integration of the Venue Operating Plan, venue procedures, and operational documentation, ensuring timely inputs from all relevant parties. Contribute to the compilation of documentation required under venue licensing and operational approval conditions. Support the Venue Overlay Manager with inputs to the integrated venue timeline, including infrastructure, site readiness, and key milestones. Coordinate with OC-led FAs (including Protocol, Accreditation, Catering, Transport, Sport, Technology, Security and others) to ensure alignment of planning milestones and operational requirements. Support venue-based readiness activities including site visits, technical walkthroughs, test events, exercises and rehearsals. Deputise the Venue Manager across key engagements and planning activities across the OC and their partners.
  • Governance, reporting & risk: Provide regular updates to the Venue Manager relating to readiness status, risks, challenges, and mitigation measures. Support tracking of venue performance against agreed KPIs and operational targets. Contribute to cross-partner forums, operational reviews and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Games-time Operations: Assist with day-to-day operational coordination within the competition venue, ensuring delivery meets OC and Commonwealth Sport standards. Deputise for the Venue Managers when required. Support management of the workforce including OC-appointed staff, volunteers, contractors, and venue owner personnel. Monitor compliance with health, safety, sustainability, accessibility, and security policies and regulatory requirements. Assist in coordinating Games-time issue resolution, stakeholder communications, and operational decision pathways.
  • Culture & standards: Champion operational excellence, sustainability, accessibility, and inclusive practices within venue planning and delivery. Promote the Event Delivery Partner’s values and behaviours, supporting strong collaboration and constructive problem-solving across all stakeholder groups.

Skills, knowledge and expertise

  • Experience: 4–6 years’ experience in venue operations or event delivery roles in multi-sport Games, major events, or complex public-facing environments (Commonwealth/Olympic experience desirable but not essential). Experience supporting operational planning, readiness, and delivery phases for major events. Understanding of multi-stakeholder environments, ideally including public sector, venue operators, and external contractors. Awareness of sustainable and inclusive event management practices.
  • Competencies: Strong organisational, planning, and coordination skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to engage confidently across diverse stakeholder groups. Relationship-builder with a collaborative working style. Proactive mindset, able to apply initiative, prioritise tasks, resolve and escalate issues appropriately. Comfortable working in high-pressure, time-sensitive operational environments.
