Role Purpose
The Operations Logistics Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient execution of all logistics activities within a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment. The role leads a team of circa eight to deliver material availability to production, maintain inventory accuracy, and execute compliant domestic and international shipments. The position carries direct accountability for health and safety management, risk assessment ownership and sustaining 6S standards across logistics operations. This is a handsâon firstâline leadership role requiring strong operational discipline, structured supervision and continuous improvement capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety & Risk Management (Primary Accountability)
- Champion and model a safety-first culture within the logistics function.
- Conduct, review and maintain task-based risk assessments, manual handling assessments, and COSHH assessments (where applicable).
- Ensure safe systems of work are documented, communicated and adhered to.
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Sustain and audit 6S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain, Safety) standards across all warehouse areas.
- Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and company policies.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach and performance manage a team of circa 8 logistics operatives.
- Maintain a skills matrix and crossâtraining plans to ensure operational resilience.
- Conduct structured 1:1s, performance reviews and development discussions.
- Drive daily Tier/SQCDP accountability meetings.
- Set clear expectations for professional standards, attendance and behavioural compliance.
- Logistics Operations & Inventory Control
- Supervise inbound goods receipt, storage, kitting, lineâside supply and dispatch activities.
- Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy through structured cycle counting.
- Ensure ERP/MRP system transactions are accurate and timely.
- Control quarantine and nonâconforming material processes.
- Maintain batch and serial traceability where required.
- Support production planning and SIOP alignment.
- Export & Trade Compliance (Operational Accountability)
- Execute and oversee compliant domestic and international shipments in accordance with company procedures and applicable UK and international export regulations.
- Ensure accurate shipping documentation, customs declarations and export classifications are completed in line with established processes.
- Maintain awareness of controlled goods and technical data requirements, ensuring appropriate handling and escalation where required.
- Escalate uncertainties or potential compliance risks promptly to the Trade Compliance team.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate, traceable and auditâready records.
- Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and report logistics KPIs, including Supplier OnâTime Delivery, Inventory accuracy, Picking accuracy, and Freight cost performance.
- Lead structured problemâsolving (e.g. 8D/RCCA) for logistics-related issues.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Support digital and system optimisation initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential
- IOSH Managing Safely
- ILM Level 3 in Leadership & Management (or equivalent supervisory qualification)
- Experience conducting formal risk assessments
- Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing logistics environment
- Strong ERP/MRP system knowledge
- Working knowledge of UK HSE legislation
- Experience preparing export/shipping documentation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Desirable
- Aerospace or regulated manufacturing experience
- Awareness of UK and US export control regulations (including ITAR/EAR principles)
- Experience implementing and sustaining 6S standards
- Lean Six Sigma methodology knowledge
- Experience leading CI projects delivering measurable improvement
- Forklift licence
