Essential: Candidate must hold the NEBOSH General Certificate, ideally the NEBOSH National Diploma. A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
About the Role: We are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to help ensure our workplaces, facilities and operations are safe and meet health and safety requirements. You will carry out inspections, complete risk assessments, investigate incidents, and support teams with clear advice and guidance. You will also help review and update health and safety documents, including policies, procedures and forms. This is an internal role working closely with staff across the Council to promote a safe working environment.
Key Requirements:
- Experience carrying out inspections, risk assessments or health and safety audits.
- Certificate or NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Strong attention to detail with good Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a professional and approachable manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out health and safety inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying any areas that need improvement.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and complaints, keeping accurate records and recommending actions to prevent future issues.
- Provide practical health and safety advice and support to staff across the Council.
- Review and update health and safety policies, procedures, guidance and related documents.
- Deliver health and safety training and promote safe working practices across Council services.
