Skills & Experience:
- Qualified fire risk assessor
- Member of IFE
- Knowledge of BS 9999, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) 2005 and PAS 79.
- Knowledge of contract law, statutory regulations, guidelines, British standards and their implementation in relation to refurbishment and maintenance contracts.
- Experience of working with complex social housing tenanted blocks
- Ability to supervise and support a team of staff and contractors.
- Ability to plan and manage work to implement programmes and meet targets set by the Team Manager.
What’s involved with this role:
As a Fire Risk Officer, you will report directly to the Team Manager, overseeing the health and safety aspects of building projects, maintenance contracts, and fire risk assessments across the Borough. You’ll allocate tasks to Property Services Officers, Supervisors, or external contractors, ensuring that work meets established standards, budget, and quality expectations. You will mentor and guide team members, sharing your expertise and helping them grow. Additionally, you will contribute to refining the FRA template and improving processes and policies.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain expert knowledge of health and safety, fire prevention, asbestos management, and construction safety for all Housing stock, infrastructure, and play areas in the Borough, staying updated on legislation.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of Fire Safety Policy, The Fire Safety Order 2005 (RRO), Building Regulations, and other fire safety legislation.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and disseminating the Council’s Fire Safety Policy, working with operational managers to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and monitor fire risk assessments as required by fire safety legislation, ensuring their practical application.
- Provide fire safety advice to stakeholders on Firecode and relevant legislation.
- Liaise with Fire and Rescue Services, addressing corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of fire safety risks on the Fire Risk Register.
