What's involved with this role:
To assist in providing support in undertaking project management of highway surface treatments and other highway maintenance related activities essential to support and implement highway maintenance and asset management functions, in compliance with statutory requirements and relevant standards.
Qualifications:
- Driving License required
- Hold a level 3 qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline OR have considerable experience in highways maintenance.
- Willingness & ability to obtain and enhance qualifications and training, eg, RSTA Silver certificates in Surface Dressing, Micro Asphalt etc.
Skills & Experience required:
- Relevant technical knowledge and experience of highway surface treatments such as Surface Dressing, Micro Asphalt and Footway Slurry, amongst others.
- Experience of monitoring contractors on site, undertaking site inspections, workmanship checks and verifying compliance with standards and legislation.
- Experience of liaising with contractors to ensure programmes of work are completed within scope, to standard and to budget.
- Experience in the use of IT: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, GIS mapping systems.
- Experience in keeping detailed records within a complex and dynamic environment.
- Knowledge and understanding in relation to Highways Asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- To assist in the delivery and management of highway surface treatment contracts and the development of associated works programmes.
- To deliver on time and within budget, projects identified within the approved annual programme of works resulting from identified highway maintenance needs and operational works priorities.
- Carrying out feasibility studies and site inspections, identifying the suitability of sites for appropriate treatments including quantifying treatment areas, materials quantities and the control of costs to expected budgets.
- Carrying out contract administration, including but not limited to arranging pre-start and progress meetings, creating and maintaining CDM documentation, raising Streetworks permits and arranging for retention sign off, in line with contractual requirements.
- To assist with maintaining evidence files for DfT incentive fund and similar projects.
- To provide support for the provision of Winter Services for weather forecast provision, gritting and snow clearance operations.
