The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

The successful applicants will be dynamic, highly motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working autonomously and as part of the Immunisation team. As a V&I Nurse, you will work within a proactive skill mix team committed to delivering high-quality services to children, young people, and their families across the Mersey Care Footprint. Travel using your own vehicle is required.

Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of public health principles related to vaccination & immunisation, aligned with national childhood and adult programmes, with a commitment to reducing health inequalities. The nurse-led immunisation team supports the national childhood immunisation programme and responds to disease outbreaks. Responsibilities include planning, delivering, and optimizing routine immunisation programmes.

Immunisations will be conducted during campaigns targeting school-age children, including MMR, HPV, Meningitis, School Leaver Booster, Influenza, and other vaccines as directed by NHS England. Out-of-schedule vaccinations will also be administered following the guidance in The Green Book to ensure children are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. The service covers vaccines for children aged 0-19 years and 0-25 years for children with special educational needs.

As part of the nurse-led Immunisation Team, the post holder will receive supervision from the Caseload Holder and Team Leader. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive vaccinations, such as:

  • School age children in schools, special schools, home, or alternative education settings, including delivering educational sessions or assemblies
  • Seasonal flu vaccinations for healthcare staff
  • Mass vaccinations during outbreaks or pandemics
  • Supporting the introduction of new vaccines and health promotion campaigns

The post holder will:

  • Assess clients individually before vaccination, considering health status, medications, and adherence to policies, under supervision
  • Complete appropriate training for working under PGDs for vaccine supply and administration
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills related to immunisation and anaphylaxis management, supported by CPD
  • Administer prescribed vaccines and antivirals via PGDs
  • Ensure clinical standards, including hand hygiene, safe environment, equipment, and emergency drugs are maintained and report concerns
  • Coordinate vaccine delivery and equipment logistics from the Medicines Management Distribution Centre
  • Follow policies for safe storage, handling, preparation, and administration of vaccines and medications
  • Ensure cold chain integrity during transportation and storage
  • Act as a resource to increase knowledge around immunisation
  • Contribute to reducing clinical risks and managing errors through recall clinics and other measures
