Advanced Social Work Practitioner (Approved Mental Health Professional) Location: Crown Street Day Centre, Liverpool, L7 3LZ Rate: Competitive hourly rate – Inside IR35 Hours: Flexible, as required including short notice cover on a 24-hour rota About the Role Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced and qualified Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Adult Services & Health division on an agency basis. This is a business-critical role , providing essential cover to support the 24-hour AMHP rota and ensure the effective delivery of statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended) . You will work on a flexible, as-and-when required basis — including at short notice — to support the rota and respond to urgent assessments, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive timely, lawful, and compassionate interventions. Key Responsibilities Undertake Mental Health Act assessments in accordance with legislation, policy, and local procedures. Collaborate effectively with police, health professionals, and other partner agencies to ensure coordinated, person-centred responses. Make informed, balanced decisions regarding compulsory admission, ensuring the least restrictive options are always considered. Provide expert advice, consultation, and support to social workers and multi-agency colleagues on mental health legislation and practice. Maintain high professional standards, contributing to quality assurance and reflective practice within the AMHP service. Ensure accurate recording, documentation, and adherence to legal and safeguarding frameworks. About You We are looking for a confident and experienced AMHP who can demonstrate: Current Social Work England registration . Approved Mental Health Professional status (warranted). Substantial post-qualification experience in statutory adult mental health work. A thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, and associated legislation.
