Assessment Social Workers

Locations: Huntingdon (PE29 3AD), Ely (CB7 4EX), Cambridge City (CB2 9NL), and South Cambridgeshire (CB2 9NL)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – office, home, and community visits

Salary: £40,735 – £43,516 per annum

Retention Payment: Up to £8,147 over 3 years + £1,500 annually thereafter

Hours: Full-time (compressed hours or 9-day fortnight available)

Relocation Package & Sponsorship Swap Available

About the Role

We are seeking six passionate and skilled Social Workers to join our Assessment Teams across Cambridgeshire.

As an Assessment Social Worker, you’ll be at the forefront of our service, undertaking high-quality child and family assessments to ensure children are safe and their needs are met. You’ll work closely with families, schools, and partner agencies to identify the right support at the right time, enabling positive and sustainable outcomes.

Our hybrid working model allows flexibility to balance your time between home, the office, and community-based visits — with options for compressed hours or a 9-day fortnight from your first day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Undertaking child and family assessments in line with statutory responsibilities.
  • Analysing risk and need to make informed, evidence-based decisions.
  • Working closely with partner agencies to develop child-focused plans of intervention.
  • Supporting families through early help, child in need, and safeguarding pathways.
  • Managing a caseload effectively while maintaining a focus on quality and outcomes.
  • Participating in reflective supervision and team learning to continuously improve practice.

About You

You’ll be a qualified and registered Social Worker (Social Work England) with a strong commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.

You will bring:

  • Experience of undertaking children’s assessments and risk analysis.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks (Children Act 1989, Working Together, etc.).
  • Strong communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to build trust and engage families effectively.
  • A reflective, strengths-based approach to social work practice.
