Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of children and young people who are looked after by the local authority.
- Undertake statutory visits and maintain meaningful relationships with children and young people.
- Complete comprehensive assessments and develop, implement, and review care plans.
- Contribute to permanency planning, including fostering, adoption, special guardianship, and reunification where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with foster carers, birth families, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies.
- Prepare high-quality reports for statutory reviews, court proceedings, and other professional meetings where required.
- Attend and contribute to Looked After Child Reviews and other multi-agency meetings.
- Advocate for the wishes, feelings, and best interests of children and young people.
- Identify and manage safeguarding concerns, ensuring children remain safe and protected.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case records in accordance with statutory guidance and organisational standards.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
- Promote positive outcomes through strengths-based, relationship-focused social work practice.
About You
You will be an experienced Social Worker with significant knowledge of Children in Care and statutory children's social work.
You will be passionate about building strong, trusting relationships with children and young people and supporting them to achieve permanence, stability, and positive life outcomes.
You will possess excellent assessment, safeguarding, communication, and court skills, together with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment while managing a complex caseload.
Requirements
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Social Work.
- Current Social Work England registration.
- Experience working within a Children in Care or Looked After Children Team.
- Strong knowledge of relevant children's legislation, safeguarding procedures, and statutory guidance.
- Experience completing assessments, care planning, and permanency planning.
- Experience preparing court reports and attending legal proceedings where required.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload and work effectively within a multi-agency environment.
