Role Info

  • 1. Reaching evidence-based professional judgments, recommendations and plans in situations of need and risk. Making professional decisions that impact on the safety and well-being of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • 2. Making decisions that ensure compliance with statutory requirements and Croydon practice standards in respect of the protection and well-being of children in need and looked after children. The balance between direct decision-making and recommendation to another person such as their team manager or assistant team manager. Liaise with other agencies in providing effective services to individuals and families and develop effective partnership working.
  • 3. To engage adults, children and families and build a quality of relationship that directly impacts on outcomes. Promote a practice philosophy which seeks to empower service users, build on individual strengths, and develop strategies which support them to understand, manage and respond to risk and to ensure assessments and plans reflect this.
  • 4. To contribute to the delivery of the Service's engagement strategy and, depending on level, have responsibility for a particular relationship.
  • 5. To build up a comprehensive knowledge of all available services and make full use of them through evidence-based matching.
  • 6. To maintain records that evidence our engagement with children and families, informs the quality assurance framework e.g. quantitative, qualitative and outcome information for vulnerable adults, children and families.
  • 7. To contribute to quality assurance exercises and activity as part of the service's quality assurance framework.
  • 8. To adapt personal practice in response to the findings from the quality assurance framework.
  • 9. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of research findings, legislation, statutory guidance and policy developments relevant to the service area.
  • 10. To apply the research evidence, legislation, guidance etc. in practice: in assessments, professional judgments, care plans, direct help and matching of child / family needs and services.
  • 11. Triage and manage the referrals into Out of Hours team
  • 12. Support Out of Hours Team Manager and Service Manager to deploy staff and resources in accordance with the Council's vision for social work practice.

Please provide 3 essential requirements from suitable candidates:

  • Significant Experience of working in a statutory setting with children and making professional judgments that deliver improved outcomes.
  • Evidence of building effective relationships with vulnerable adults, children, families and other professionals.
  • Able to comply in practice with statutory requirements and guidance, and local procedures and standards.

Current working from home policy:

Able to work from Croydon council office when on shift and travel inside and outside of the borough when required.

For audit purposes, are there any training certificates or qualifications that are required for this role?

Social work qualification recognised by HCPC.

Working knowledge of national policy and developments regarding children's social care, and policy areas that impact on children's social care.

Demonstratable working knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, standards and procedures.
