NORTH WEST TEACHING HOSPITAL – STROKE CONSULTANT VACANCY

We have been appointed by a renowned Teaching Hospital in the North West to help recruit a Stroke Consultant for either a Substantive or a 12-month NHS Fixed Term contract. The appointee will participate in the regional Telestroke thrombolysis rota. There will be opportunities to be involved in the unselected acute medical take, currently on a 1:8 rota. When Consultant numbers are sufficient, the plan is to move to a seven-day working schedule covering Stroke on weekend TIA clinics.

Our client admits approximately 550 acute stroke patients annually. The Combined Stroke Unit has 39 beds (15 acute and 24 rehabilitation) in a newly developed unit close to Radiology. The Stroke Unit is staffed by 3 WTE Consultants, supported by 1 Specialty Doctor (soon to increase to 2), and 4 Junior Doctors. There is a team of specialist stroke nurses and multidisciplinary support from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and dieticians. Additional services include an Early Support Discharge Team led by Occupational Therapy, providing ongoing community rehabilitation for Stroke survivors.
