We have been appointed by one of the well-performing NHS Trusts in Wales to help recruit a Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine on a Permanent/NHS Fixed Term basis.

Our client is the largest healthcare organisation in Wales, responsible for the health of nearly 700,000 people. The region attracts approximately 8 million overnight visitors and 17 million day tourists annually. With a budget of around £1.2 billion, the Health Board employs over 16,000 staff and provides services including acute, intermediate, mental health, community, and primary care across North Wales and North Powys. As a University Health Board, they collaborate in research and offer joint academic posts with Bangor University and Glyndwr University.

The Health Board operates three district general hospitals, 22 other acute and community hospitals, and a network of over 90 health centres, clinics, community health bases, and mental health units.

The successful appointee will be expected to undertake the following duties:

  1. Provide day-to-day general medical support on medical wards, mainly working within a clinical team under the supervision of a consultant physician.
  2. Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota, supporting medical wards on a 1:8 full-shift pattern with prospective cover.
  3. Follow escalation pathways for patient transfers as needed.
  4. Participate in the ambulatory Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) pathway.
  5. Provide emergency assistance to walk-in attenders upon request from triage nurses.
  6. Offer advice to clinicians in hospital and primary care via telephone or ward referrals.
  7. Engage in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students within the trust.
  8. Assist with Clinical Governance and Audit duties.
