We have been assigned by one of the UK's most prestigious NHS Trusts to assist in recruiting a Specialty Doctor in Urology on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful department.
Department Overview
The Urology department comprises 9 full-time consultants and covers a wide spectrum of urological practice including BPH, incontinence, laparoscopic surgery, and stones. Consultants operate a 1 in 8 on-call rota, supported by middle-grade doctors on a 1 in 8 rota with 24/7 onsite junior support and a comprehensive 3-tier rota. The department is supported by a dedicated team of specialists including a nurse consultant, a lead nurse, 5 urology cancer nurses, and 2 urology nurse practitioners, who manage follow-up and telephone clinics and perform procedures like TRUS biopsies, cystostomy, and flexible cystoscopies. The department holds a monthly audit half-day, and active participation is expected. There are opportunities for research, publications, and attendance at urology courses and conferences.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care for urological patients.
- Collaborate with consultant teams to optimize theatre and clinic utilization.
- Share responsibility with the Registrar and other Specialty Doctors for ward management and inpatient care.
- Participate in the urology on-call rota (1 in 8).
- Support clinical governance initiatives, including audits to improve treatment quality and reduce risks.
- Engage in departmental teaching and ongoing professional development.
