Job Description

Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS organisation based in SW Scotland to help recruit a Locum Consultant in Care of the Elderly for a Locum Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months minimum.

The NHS organisation delivers integrated acute and community health services to a population of around 350,000 across multiple sites with over 8,000 staff.

They are based in Scotland’s south west region with scenic coastline and close proximately to Glasgow. The role is mainly based at 1 site but there would be a requirement to cover the second site which is a short distance nearby. The main site is a modern 330 bed District General Hospital serving a population of 156,000 for most specialties.

Older People’s Medicine provides a range of assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, care and support services for older people across the region.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Delivery of high quality, efficient and responsive clinical care to the patients
  • Responsible for inpatient ward rounds in the acute frailty ward at the main site and also other close locations
  • The post holder will work with Hospital at Home and Health and Care partnership staff to identify the most appropriate pathway of care for the patient for effective treatment and safe, supported discharge home without unnecessary delay.
  • Responsible for sessions of ward round activity in acute frailty unit
  • Provision of outpatient activity aligned to service requirements and sub-specialty interest
  • Professional supervision and management of Junior Medical Staff.
  • Support the development of interdisciplinary assessment and treatment pathways and processes for older patients within the Combined Assessment Units, working closely with a specialist Medicine for the Elderly practitioner and local Intermediate Care services.
  • Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, accreditation and examination duties as required, and for contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. The post holder will be expected to comply with College recommendations on Continuing Medical Education.
  • Requirement to participate in medical audit and continuing medical education. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in research and to develop a relevant subspecialty interest, subject to resources and local priorities
