Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine – 12 Months FTC
Triple West Medical are seeking a Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine for our NHS Client based in Essex for 12 months on a salaried Fixed Term Contract.

About the Hospital
Based at the main Hospital, the Emergency Department manages around 450 attendances per day, supported by 16 consultant posts, 25 senior grades, and strong links with Acute Medicine, Paediatrics and Ambulatory Care. They deliver a modern emergency pathway, including Rapid Assessment and Patient Treatment (RAPT), and prioritise a collaborative whole‑system approach to keep patient flow safe, efficient and effective.

- 19 Majors cubicles

- Co‑located Paediatric ED
- Ambulance Offload Bay
- GP Streaming
The Role
As a Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high‑quality clinical care in both adult and paediatric emergency medicine. You will:
- Provide expert assessment, stabilisation and management of emergency patients
- Lead on RAPT and oversee safe, effective patient flow
- Supervise, teach and support junior medical staff
- Work collaboratively with ED colleagues and partners across Acute, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation and Community teams
- Contribute to service development, governance, audit and quality improvement
- Participate in the consultant on‑call rota
- Take part in planning, service redesign and innovation within the department
- They actively encourage Consultants to develop specialist interests and will support you in pursuing areas such as ultrasound, trauma, paediatrics, ambulatory care, governance or education.

Who They Are Looking For
- You’ll be an experienced Emergency Medicine clinician who brings energy, leadership and a passion for delivering exceptional care. You will have:
- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC Specialist Register entry (or within 6 months of CCT at interview, or CESR‑eligible)
- Broad training and expertise across the Emergency Medicine spectrum
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills
- Experience supervising trainees and providing clinical teaching
- Commitment to audit, quality improvement and evidence‑based practice
- The ability to take independent responsibility for clinical decision‑making
- A flexible, compassionate and resilient approach to working
