Consultant in Ophthalmology – Interest in Cornea & External Eye Disease

We have been assigned to help recruit a Consultant in Ophthalmology with an interest in cornea and external eye disease on a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join a successful Ophthalmology department.

Our client is one of the biggest trusts in the UK, with a regional Head and Neck Cancer centre. The post will be one of nine ophthalmic consultants, each with their own specialist fields, all of whom are also involved in providing a general ophthalmic service to the area.

The successful appointee will undertake various duties, including providing a comprehensive Ophthalmic service, developing and helping to run the cornea and external eye disease service, and being a capable general ophthalmologist able to undertake general service provision. Proficiency in cataract surgery is essential, and a commitment to training is necessary.

The appointee will take part in the consultant on-call rota for emergency duties and provide emergency cover for colleagues. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and for the proper functioning of the department. Teaching duties, including contributing to the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and teaching Ophthalmic Trainees, are also expected.

Our client offers a well-supported and friendly team, with excellent transport links to big cities. The role offers 10 P.A\’s and the option for full-time or part-time work. GMC registration is required.
