Overview

We have been assigned by one of the UK\’s more prestigious NHS Trusts to help recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetist on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their Anaesthetist department.

Our client currently is one of the largest NHS organisations in the country with an outstanding reputation. The Trust is focused on delivering a world class, fully integrated care system for adults. It has Twice rated Outstanding by the CQC and provides a range of community and primary care services and specialist services to Greater Manchester and beyond.

About the department and scope

Our client provides a variety of surgical specialties including the upper GI service to Greater Manchester and a nationally referred Intestinal Failure Unit. They have an established CPET service and ERAS pathways for Major elective surgery. The department collaborates across perioperative medicine and aims to improve patient outcomes, and houses the Manchester centre for Clinical Neurosciences. The Trust covers neurosurgical specialties, a national cohort of complex spinal surgery, and supports a 7 day thrombectomy service (with expansion to 24 hours soon). There may be scope for work in other areas of the Trust, which would be agreed with the successful candidate and the relevant Department.

Work in these areas may be expected: collaboration with anaesthesia and surgery to optimise outcomes, and cover for the NCA orthopaedic centre based nearby.

Location and lifestyle

The location blends rural countryside and market towns with cosmopolitan city amenities, including excellent schools and strong transport links to major cities. An international airport is nearby, making it an attractive location for applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Consultant level anaesthesia services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to services across the department including neurosurgery, spinal surgery, 7 day thrombectomy and expanding 24 hour thrombectomy coverage.
  • Work collaboratively with surgery to optimise patient outcomes and participate in departmental planning and decision making.
  • Be prepared to work in other Trust areas as agreed with the Department and relevant stakeholders.
