We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our fast-growing team. This role is open to candidates based within a commutable distance (generally within 2-3 hours) of one of our office hubs in Oxford or London. We embrace flexibility in where and how work gets done and also value meaningful in-person moments to connect and collaborate. You can expect a remote-first working model with periodic in-person gatherings at your closest office for team connection, planning, or other key moments.

Within Tripadvisor Experiences, we have a fun and friendly environment where the key objective is getting things done. Working closely alongside product managers and designers, our engineers are part of the full process from software design, to code, to test, to deployment and back again. Most of our engineers release code to production every few days and we have a daily release cycle.

At Tripadvisor Experiences, our Engineers are versatile problem-solvers who thrive on a wide range of technical challenges. This is a backend-focused, full-stack role where you will primarily work on backend systems, with occasional front-end projects. You don’t need to be a front-end expert - if you’re eager to learn, we’ll support you on the job, and front-end skills won’t be assessed during the interview process. Our web stack includes Java, GraphQL, Kubernetes, SQL and NoSQL databases, all running on AWS. While experience with every tool isn’t required, strong proficiency in an object-oriented programming language is essential.

The Tripadvisor Group connects people to experiences worth sharing, and aims to be the world’s most trusted source for travel and experiences. We leverage our brands, technology, and capabilities to connect our global audience with partners through rich content, travel guidance, and two-sided marketplaces for experiences, accommodations, restaurants, and other travel categories.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle from design, through coding and testing, to deployment and feedback.
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to implement robust backend systems; contribute to occasional frontend work as needed.
  • Release code to production on a regular basis, contributing to a frequent release cycle.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in an object-oriented programming language.
  • Backend-focused with experience in Java, GraphQL, Kubernetes, SQL and NoSQL databases; familiarity with AWS is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn frontend tasks if needed; front-end skills are not required for the interview process.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages (routinely benchmarked against the latest industry data), including base salary and annual bonuses.
  • "Work your way" with flexibility to suit your lifestyle. Tripadvisor Group takes a remote-friendly approach to collaboration across a worldwide team, with the option to join on-site as often as you’d like or as required by your team.
  • Flexible schedule. Work-life balance is ingrained in our culture by design. Trust and accountability make it work.
  • Donation matching. Give back? Give more! We match qualifying charitable donations annually.
  • Tuition assistance. Want to level up your career? We love to hear it! Receive annual support for qualified programs.
  • Lifestyle benefit. An annual benefit to spend on yourself. Use it on travel, wellness, or whatever suits you.
  • Travel perks. We believe that travel is employee development, so we provide discounts and more.
  • Employee assistance program. We’re here for you with resources and programs to help you through life’s challenges.
  • Health benefits. We offer great coverage and competitive premiums.
  • Generous referral scheme. Help us grow and be rewarded with generous awards for referring successful candidates.
