The Opportunity – Purpose:

As a Senior Relationship Manager for Sustainable Property, you will join a fast-growing business at the forefront of sustainable banking. This role is responsible for driving growth in Business Banking lending products by developing both new and existing customer relationships. Sustainable Property sits within the Resource Transition Theme and includes financing the development and/or operation of BREEAM Excellent+ and EPC A+, as well as the conscious retrofit of residential and commercial investment properties held for long-term rental.

As the lead expert you will have a fantastic opportunity in shaping and growing our presence and impact in this important sector. The position offers both reward and challenge, and we are looking for someone with the expertise and drive to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Working within the Bank’s UK Business Banking team, you will engage with business introducers and prospective customers to generate new lending enquiries and build your portfolio. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the more complex and higher-risk credit proposals (typically up to £20 million), as well as the ongoing management and monitoring of a portfolio of borrowers. In this role, you will deliver sales of banking products and promote the Bank’s services to organisations across a range of business sectors, with the overarching goal of facilitating positive change within society.

You will also support the Nature, Food and Resource Team Manager in developing markets for our lending and banking services and occasionally deputise for them as needed. The ability to actively participate in the UK credit committee is essential for this position.

This role offers a high degree of autonomy and a hybrid working model, blending home and remote working. Candidates should be able to visit their client base regularly and will have access to our Edinburgh, Bristol, and London offices as required.

Key Responsibilities will Include:

  • Generating new business opportunities and lending enquiries to meet agreed lending targets.
  • Assessing credit proposals and presenting findings to the UK Credit Committee, actively contributing to decisions.
  • Developing and managing a portfolio of existing business customers - typically large borrowers with facilities up to £20 million - including leading or participating in syndicated loans, while delivering a professional and responsive service.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key business introducers and networks within your sector.
  • Supporting the Team Manager in developing new markets and deputising when required.
  • Monitoring and managing the risk profile of your client portfolio, including identifying early warning signals.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues, acting as a mentor when appropriate.
  • Representing the Bank at internal and external events, actively promoting our services and values.

What We Are Looking For:

We’re seeking an experienced commercial lender with a strong track record in building and managing complex customer relationships, delivering large-scale lending, and driving positive change. You’ll have advanced credit skills, a deep understanding of business financials, and a genuine commitment to our values.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Significant experience in commercial lending and portfolio management, including new business development.
  • Proven success in structuring and delivering complex lending up to £20 million; experience with syndicated loans is an advantage.
  • Advanced credit assessment skills and expertise in property development and complex deal structures.
  • Strong understanding of business financials, risk factors, and credit portfolio management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to represent the Bank professionally.
  • Ability to manage complex workflows and progress lending proposals efficiently.
  • Strong risk management knowledge, including KYC, CDD, and conduct risk.
  • Confident communicator with advanced analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Institute of Banking) is desirable.

What we offer:

In return for your hard work and expertise, you will receive a competitive salary, plus access to our extensive benefits package, where most of our benefits are non-contributory. This role has a car allowance of £5,750 per annum paid monthly.

Our benefits include:

  • Non-contributory pension scheme from your first day of 8% in year 1 and 10% from year 2 onwards.
  • Life Assurance (worth 4 times basic pay).
  • Income Protection - 75% of basic pay after 13 weeks sick and following six months service.
  • Private Medical Insurance with optional enhanced or HCP family coverage.
  • A Health Cash Plan.
  • Vitality Leave – After each 5 years of service, you will be able to take a sabbatical of up to 3 months. This benefit is then available after every 7 years of service thereafter.
  • 27 days (Full Time Equivalent) annual leave plus bank holidays per annum increasing to 30 days after 2 years’ service.
  • A buy and sell holiday scheme of up to 5 days (Full Time Equivalent) up to maximum of 35 days total annual leave.
