Overview (Scope of Role)
The Production Supervisor (Chemical) reports directly to the Production Leader.
Direct reports include 5-8 hourly operators.
Responsible for all functions of personnel and operations management related to day-to-day staffing and production issues at the Bristol Plant.
Responsibilities
- Operations and Safety Support
- Ensure safe operations and that all safety policies/ practices are followed by operations personnel.
- Support full compliance of all safety related regulatory requirements including: OSHA, PSM, RMP, VPP and Company policies and programs.
- Ensure timely completion of investigations and completion of actions generated from EHS programs.
- Support full environmental compliance and optimal environmental performance; ensure that all best practices are followed by Operations personnel.
- Direct supervision of production employees; motivates workforce for high productivity. Ensure procedures are updated and followed.
- Responsible for efficient use of the work force, including the scheduling of OT as needed to ensure adequate staffing and to control costs.
- Ensures employees attend required Safety meetings and remain up to date on training requirements.
- Maximize operational efficiencies by ensuring production units are run at optimum operating conditions.
- Minimize unit downtime by defining priorities with maintenance; assist in cost reduction by ensuring good coordination between maintenance and operations.
- Propose/implement improvements to drive unit continuous improvements.
- Participate and support implementation of all projects that involve the unit operations.
- Abides by terms of the collective Bargaining Agreement; properly conducts bidding and polling and responds to grievances; resolving differences with union leadership.
- Supports BBS process by performing observations and encourages employee participation.
- Supports bulk truck loading activities and rail movements at the site
- Performs lockout tagout on equipment in advance of maintenance activities.
- Write and issue Safe Work Permits for contractors, maintenance staff and others. Ensure provisions of the Safe Work Permit are followed and all work is completed safely.
- Supports Loss Control policy, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.
- Provide initial onsite Emergency Response leadership during any incidents at the facility.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in manufacturing plant
- Prior production supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Chemical manufacturing experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of MS Office
- SAP experience preferred
