An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to join a leading organisation in the defence and maritime sector. This pivotal role will see you overseeing a large, high‑profile project or multiple smaller projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
You will take the lead in managing complex project lifecycles, reporting directly to the Maritime Mission Systems (MMS) Portfolio Manager and working closely with a dedicated System Design Authority and project team. Acting as the primary point of contact for the customer, you will be responsible for managing contractual changes, monitoring progress, and driving the project to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day project management in line with company processes and approved plans.
- Develop realistic, achievable project schedules and ensure progress is maintained.
- Monitor and report on project performance, financial status, and earned value metrics.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.
- Manage and develop the project team, including performance appraisals and setting objectives.
- Support bid preparation in collaboration with the marketing department.
- Build strong customer relationships and seek out profitable business opportunities.
- Oversee the selection and management of key suppliers to ensure delivery milestones are met.
About You
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and commercially aware Project Manager who thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment. You will have a proven track record in delivering complex projects, ideally within the defence or maritime industry, and be confident managing stakeholders at all levels.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
- Experienced user of Microsoft Project and Excel.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Full driving licence and ability to obtain security clearance.
- Spent time within a military capacity (Army, Navy, MOD)
Desirable Skills
- Recognised project management qualification (e.g., APMP or equivalent).
- Knowledge of the defence IT industry and project development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with risk management tools and earned value analysis.
