I’m working with an innovative engineering and technology business developing next-generation electro-mechanical products for the automotive sector. They’re looking to appoint a Senior Product Validation Engineer to join a hands-on Test & Validation team working at the cutting edge of product development. This role would suit an engineer who enjoys being in the lab, owning test activity end-to-end, and playing a key role in bringing complex technology from concept through to validated product.
You’ll support the development and validation of a highly innovative electro-mechanical product, taking responsibility for planning, executing and analysing a wide range of validation and verification tests. Reporting into the Test Manager, you’ll work closely with internal teams and external test houses, helping to shape test strategy and ensure products meet performance, safety and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and carry out a full range of product validation testing (performance, functional, electrical, environmental and life testing)
- Design, specify and develop new test procedures
- Set up and build test rigs, jigs and fixtures (including basic metal/plastic work, wiring and soldering)
- Specify and procure test equipment and components
- Analyse test data using statistical methods, identifying trends, issues and improvement opportunities
- Produce clear, high-quality test specifications, reports and documentation
- Liaise with and oversee external test houses and certification bodies
- Present test results, insights and recommendations to stakeholders across the business
- Maintain robust systems for tracking, storage and handling of test items
- Supervise and mentor Product Validation Technicians
- Maintain a safe, tidy and well-organised laboratory environment
- Strong background as an electro-mechanical engineer within an R&D or product development environment
- Hands-on experience working to formal test procedures and producing test specifications and reports
- Proven fault-finding and problem-diagnosis capability
- Experience testing electric motors and/or inverters
- Exposure to automotive testing standards
- Experience with laboratory software such as LabVIEW or similar
- Highly organised, focused and self-motivated
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to mentor, coach and support junior engineers and technicians
- Practical, delivery-focused and values-driven
