The Technical Estimator is responsible for reviewing customer enquiries, technical drawings, and specifications in order to prepare accurate quotations, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing routes. The role requires strong engineering knowledge, attention to detail, and commercial awareness to support both customers and the internal sales team.

The successful candidate will work closely with sales, purchasing, production, and suppliers to ensure competitive and technically accurate quotations are provided within required timescales. Experience within the fasteners sector is essential, with a strong understanding of fastener products, manufacturing methods, materials, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating & Technical Review
    • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements at enquiry and order stage.
    • Produce accurate quotations, including material requirements, labour estimates, and manufacturing routes.
    • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
    • Identify the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing method for customer components.
    • Assess opportunities to source components externally where commercially beneficial.
    • Support contract review activities for both standard and technical orders when required.
    • Ensure all quotations and technical information are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
    • Apply industry knowledge of fasteners, materials, coatings, and manufacturing capabilities when reviewing customer requirements.
  • Supplier & Purchasing Support
    • Issue enquiries to overseas and UK-based suppliers for pricing and lead times.
    • Liaise with suppliers regarding technical and commercial requirements.
    • Work alongside the Purchasing Director to develop supplier relationships and sourcing opportunities.
    • Assist in identifying alternative suppliers and cost-saving opportunities where appropriate.
  • Sales & Customer Support
    • Provide technical support to the Sales Team during quotation and order processes.
    • Maintain strong communication with customers regarding technical enquiries.
    • Support business development opportunities where possible.
    • Assist in developing and managing customer accounts as the role progresses.
General Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ensure excellent attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Support colleagues and departments when workloads require.
  • Carry out general housekeeping and maintain an organised work environment.

Person Specification
  • Essential Skills & Experience
    • Previous experience working within the fasteners sector is essential.
    • Good understanding of fastener products, materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
    • Good basic engineering knowledge.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Good organisational and communication skills.
    • Commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Desirable Skills & Experience
    • Previous estimating experience within manufacturing or engineering.
    • Experience creating Bills of Materials (BOMs).
    • Knowledge of machining, cold forming, fabrication, or subcontract manufacturing processes.
    • Experience dealing with suppliers and purchasing activities.
    • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
Working Hours

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 16:30
Friday: 08:00 – 15:30

Holiday Entitlement

26 days annual leave plus statutory holidays. Holiday entitlement increases after 3, 5, and 10 years of service.

Pension scheme provided through The People's Pension:

Additional Information

The role may require occasional flexibility outside normal working hours in order to meet customer or business requirements. Training and support will be provided where necessary to assist the successful candidate in developing within the role and wider business.
