An established manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist to lead melting operations, metallurgical quality, and laboratory activities. This is a hands-on senior role, approximately 60% office-based and 40% shopfloor, combining technical expertise with team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure metallurgical process controls in line with ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016
- Manage SG iron melting/pouring operations using induction furnaces and a pressurised pouring furnace.
- Lead melting and laboratory teams (supervisors, operators, and technicians)
- Oversee laboratory functions including OES, mechanical testing, and metallography
- Conduct metallurgical investigations and produce technical reports
- Drive quality, scrap reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Prepare and issue risk assessments and promote a strong safety culture
- Procure raw materials and support cost control activities
Requirements
- HNC / HND in Metallurgy or Metals Technology, or a Degree in Metals Technology or related discipline
- Proven experience in a senior metallurgical or foundry role
- Strong knowledge of SG iron melting and process control
- Hands-on leadership experience in a production environment
- Computer literate with strong reporting capability
