The Opportunity

As Senior Metallurgist, you will take ownership of metallurgical quality, melting operations, laboratory performance, and process improvement activities across a busy manufacturing environment. This is a highly visible role, combining approximately 60% office-based technical leadership and 40% shopfloor involvement, allowing you to stay close to production while influencing operational performance and quality standards. You will play a key role in driving metallurgical excellence, reducing scrap, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring technical and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead metallurgical operations within an established iron/steel manufacturing environment
  • Oversee melting and pouring processes, ensuring process control and product quality
  • Provide technical leadership across laboratory, quality, and production teams
  • Drive metallurgical investigations, root cause analysis, and technical reporting
  • Support continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and operational efficiency projects
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards including ISO 9001 and IATF requirements

Experience within foundry, castings, iron, steel, or heavy manufacturing environments would be highly beneficial. You will ideally have:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Metallurgy, Metals Technology, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • Strong technical understanding of metallurgical processes in iron or steel production
  • Experience within a manufacturing or production-led environment
  • The ability to lead, influence, and support technical and operational teams
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
